Hartley’s Regiment

Comprised of eight companies from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, Thomas Hartley’s regiment was formed in January 1777. In May it was transferred into the 1st Pennsylvania brigade. Like many of the other continental units I’ve painted so far they also saw action at Brandy-wine and German-town. Combining with Patton’s and Malcolm’s additional regiments in 1779 it form the “new” 11th Pennsylvania which in 1781 merged with the 3rd Pennsylvania and ceased to exist.

Uniform Plates

I used a combination of examples one (an internet image) and three (Baccus PDF) when painting these figures. Example two is from the Perry’s leaflet while plates five and six are taken from the only reference books I currently own. A more detailed break down of these uniform plates can be found near the bottom of this link.

Another home baked flag based around a very basic image I found somewhere on the internet. The flag on the left shows just how light I had to make the shading in order for it to look remotely like the flag on the right after printing.
