Minnegerode’s Hessian grenadiers

I haven’t added any uniform plates in this gallery as I’m not overly confident that all of the individual companies presented here are painted correctly. For example after further reading I’ve discovered that the cloth on the Lossberg’s mitre cap should be black and not orange. However, having been back through them once all ready to make some corrections, I’ve reached the point when they are close enough for me.

Confusingly there seems to have been two Erbprinz regiments evolved in the war. The Hesse-Hanau musketeer regiment (documented as wearing both red and pink facings). Sent to Quebec it was lost at Saratoga in 1777. Then there was the  Hesse-Cassel fusilier regiment which disembarked in New York and served in Howe’s army. These also had pink/rose facings that were later changed to crimson in 1780.
