The following pictures cover most of what I have been painting up and basing lately. There was the odd extra base of Napoleonic Spanish infantry and British AWI infantry that I haven’t posted here. These were extra padding for units that have already appeared on previous just painted pages and therefore don’t need a second showing.
Lately I have been concentrating on adding to my AWI collection. Last month I managed to complete a unit of Hessian grenadiers, the Queens ranges, the 2nd Maryland and a small unit of militia continental cavalry. All of which are pictured below.
Next we have a unit of Portuguese light dragoons. Lovely figures from the Perry brothers range with a GMB flag. I prefer cavalry units that are standing at ease as apposed to charging. They fit onto the bases a lot better and the risk of damaging their sword arm tends to disappear when they aren’t protruding above their heads.
Below these is the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Legere. This battalion has been sitting on my painting table waiting for me to add the flag for a couple of months now. I’ve also managed to finish off two Spanish limber teams that have been in the works for nearly as long as the French infantry battalion.
My Republic Roman army finally got the three command elements they needed to complete a basic three hundred point force. After finishing these bases, I definitely felt the need to put the army on the table. This in turn got me somewhat excited about my other ancient armies and before I knew it, I was back re-basing more Assyrian and Scythian troops again.
You will have to forgive my Assyrian king in his bright blue racing chariot. After all it was my first attempt at painting a historical army (many, many moons ago). I did toyed briefly with the idea of stripping the whole army down and repainting it, but that would have been a mammoth job. So it looks like the bright blue racing chariot is here to stay.
