All troops presented here were mounted on 40/30mm plywood bases with the Fire & Fury rule system in mind. I have experienced no real problems when trialing several other rule systems with all my troops based in this manner.
Although the majority of these infantry stands contain only three figures, I have added four and five figure elements into the mix. This makes the troop formations look a lot less uniform than the well-dressed lines of earlier horse and musket armies. Suggested in the Fire & Fury basing recommendations I believe this set-out really suits the armies of this period.
Although large enough to play a decent sized game I plan to slowly add more command stands to my Union force in the future.
Union infantry
These Units of Union infantry, like their confederate counterparts pictured below are all painted in a very generic manner. This allows me to build different sized units around each of their command stands in order to match specific army lists or scenarios. For these site photos I have grouped all ninety seven of my basic infantry stands around the eleven currently completed command stands. The troop stands were grouped together in matching poses (e.g. marching, shooting) which helps me quickly differentiate between units in the thick of the fighting. The flags are all from GMB while the figures are all Perry brothers plastic’s bar some of the command groups.
Confederate Infantry
Larger than my current Union army this Rebel force can boast one hundred and twenty four stands arranged into nineteen units. I really enjoyed painting the patchwork look of these troops which was a welcome change from churning out the same old Union uniforms. Once again the bulk of these troops are Perry plastics with GMB flags.
