Here is one of my all-time favourite ancient armies. This is its third incarnation, repainted and rebased for a rule system called Triumph. Originally it started life as a big DBM army with fourteen chariots. However, after deciding that DBM sucked, (mainly because I couldn’t get the hang of it) I started rebasing these troops for Impetus. A fun set of rules that uses awesome big bases (see the link below). Sadly it’s not popular in my neck of the woods. So I had to make a choice, the cupboard (storage) or the tub (to soak the bases off yet again).
The colour scheme/theme I used for this army was largely based on laziness. After stripping the paint off a few figures I quickly started looking for ways to avoid doing more than I really needed to. The elite cavalry, archers and some of the heavy foot were already sporting these colours. So I just ended up repainting the light foot and chariots to match. I don’t think it is an overly historical look for them. Having flicked through the Osprey book more than a couple of times now I’m yet to find anyone dressed in Sea Rescue orange. That said, overall, I’m pleased with how the army turned out.
Army lists:
Here is a basic list for a standard forty-eight-point game. It consists of fourteen manoeuvre elements and at this scale would require (roughly) a 6/4 foot table. This is by no means your only option when it comes to this army. The button below is a link to a page containing free army lists, troop clarifications and battle card descriptions.
- Above: Is a single stand of rabble (full repaint).
- Left: Are two stands of skirmishers (full repaint).
- Below are three bases of horde (full repaint).
- Left is a section of my old DBM camp. It is near enough to the required camp size for Triumph. The ground cover just needed a repaint and I added some grass tuffs to match the army’s new look.
- Below are a couple of links: One contains pictures of the army when it was based for Impetus and the other is a battle report showing the army in action.
