British infantry regiments of this era contained ten companies; eight centre companies (Hat men) and two flank companies, (one grenadier and one light company). When large battle groups assembled it was common practice to strip out the light and grenadier companies from each infantry regiment. These elite companies would then be combined into temporary formations generally referred to as converged Grenadier or light battalions.
Each of the five grenadier elements pictured here have been painted in the individual facing colours of their parent regiments (which I intend to add to my British army). Thus we have the 64th with Black facing, the 46th and 37th both with yellow facing, the 5th with green and the 33rd with red.
